Bioderms / About
About this archive
An unofficial fan archive built from a personally owned copy of MissionForce: CyberStorm (GOG edition, buy it here). Nothing here is playable; it's a browsable record of the Bioderms.

How it was made
- Archives.
CYBDATA1–4.RBXare simple archives: a header, then 16-byte entries (12-byte name + offset). They hold sprites, scripts, text tables, video and audio. - Portraits. The
.FLXfiles are a modified FLIC format: a custom run/literal/skip delta codec in non-standard chunks. A small decoder was written and checked against the game's own frame sizes. 141 of 256 FLX files decode (all 124 Bioderm portrait animations); the other 115 are listed on Extras. - GIFs. Written directly from the 8-bit indexed frames with the game's exact palette, so they are pixel-identical to the original data (verified frame by frame).
- Sounds.
.WAXfiles are IMA-style 4-bit ADPCM (or raw PCM). The decoder was reproduced from the executable, including its quirks (initial step of 0, low nibble first). - Death sounds. Found in
CSTORM.EXE: 30 animation records, one per Bioderm, each with a sound field. Mentor's cue sheet is a table of (sound, frame, volume) entries. See Death sounds. - Text. The
.BINfiles are id→string tables. Mission scripts (.CS) had their strings extracted heuristically, so a few fragments may be missing or mixed in. - Biographies. Stats and biographies come from a printout of the game's help file. Several page breaks in that printout cut off content: Imra, Uru, Model 001 and Mentor are missing some skill rows, Jarvis is missing his vitals, and a few biography passages are truncated (marked in the text). Those gaps are shown as gaps, not guessed.
Caveats
- The death videos use a stand-in sound for pooled Bioderms and start every sound on frame 1; the game's own timing wasn't decoded.
- The audio for pooled Bioderms was assigned by listening to nothing: the mapping comes from reading the executable, and was spot-checked by ear for Boto, Mentor and the Elana/Maia and Jath/Jai pairs.
- The portrait set
BGMSH99duplicates Model 001 exactly and isn't shown separately.
